The Grassroots Endowment Challenge is to create

A Community Chest

This is a way to support the future of small Voluntary community groups in Telford and Wrekin.

The Government (The Office of the Third Sector) has pledged to match £1 for £1 any money raised before the end oif March 2011upto a maximum of £159k.

This means that if Telford and Wrekin CVS, with the HELP of the community could raise £159K.

The Government would then match that amount with another £159K. Making a total of £318K.

This is then invested. It becomes an Endowment  which then provides an annual sum of money, that can be distributed to voluntary and community groups in the form of grants.

Who! can give to the Community Chest? 

Private individuals, limited companies, sole traders, partnerships, PLCs, companies limited by guararantee and other not-for-profit enterprises, gifts from existing family trusts. 

Added Bonus: Gift Aid.

Donations received from taxpayers are also eligable for Gift Aid.

Although there were changes to tax bands in April 2008, the government decided to grant charities transitional relief, and leave the current rate of 28%, for individuals, in place for three years until April 2011. 

How the money grows:

£10.00 Donation plus

£2.80  Gift Aid  plus

£12.80 Matched funding

A £10.00 donation becomes £25.60.
